What Age Is The Power Glen Formation?

***POSITION CURRENTLY FILLED***
Within the sequence of rocks exposed in the Niagara Escarpment, the Power Glen Formation is an unusual set of dark shales that are sandwiched between the white Whirlpool Sandstone below and the red Medina Sandstone above. Fossils in this interval are few and the age of these rocks are uncertain. Recent geochemical research suggests that they may correspond to an interval of glacial climate and mass extinction. The aim of the project is to obtain microfossils from the Power Glen shales and test this hypothesis.
