***POSITION FILLED UNTIL FALL 2018*** The kidneys play a critical role in maintaining whole-body pH, by producing bicarbonate to neutralize metabolic and dietary acids. Individuals with mutations in the bicarbonate transport protein NBCe1 cannot supply the blood with sufficient bicarbonate, leading to acid blood and blindness. We wish to understand how these mutations prevent NBCe1 function.
Student Skill-Set Needed: Previous lab experience desirable
