Undergraduate research helped Celia discover her passion

I completed my undergraduate studies in Speech and Hearing Science at UB and I am currently a first year doctoral student in audiology. I have been involved in hearing research in the Center for Hearing and Deafness since my sophomore year. My project investigates a novel protein, sestrin-2, in the cochlea. We found that sestrin-2 potentiates age-related sensory cell degeneration via augmentation of oxidative and inflammatory responses.

“Undergraduate research really helped me shape my academic and career goals.”

Undergraduate research really helped me shape my academic and career goals. I have developed great passion for hearing science and will pursue a PhD in Audiology. Aside from research at UB, I have completed summer research internships at University of Cambridge and Indiana University.
