A Lake Divided: Modeling DO in Onondaga Lake

Beljan, of Eden, New York, evaluated remediation alternatives to improve the water quality of Onondaga Lake, ultimately helping to develop a method to aerate the lake that would improve the water and ecosystem.

Streptococcus Pneumoniae Pathogenesis And Host Response

Our research is focused on understanding how the bacterial pathogen Streptococcus pneumoniae colonizes and infects the respiratory tract. We study both the factors bacteria need to colonize and infect (adherence, nutrient acquisition, toxins) as well as the strategies we use to protect ourselves from bacterial challenge (with special focus on how antimicrobial factors in breast milk kill bacteria).
