			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We are pleased to announce a new summer internship program, SCI Scholars, for chemistry and chemical engineering undergraduates.</p>
<p>The program is a joint effort of the Society of Chemical Industry (SCI), America International Group (AIG), the American Chemical Society (ACS), and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), and was developed to introduce chemistry and chemical engineering students to careers in the chemical industry.</p>
<p>Exceptional sophomores and juniors with a GPA of at least 3.5 and who are majoring in chemistry or chemical engineering are encouraged to apply.</p>
<p>Program details:</p>
<ul>
<li> Twenty-one scholars will be chosen for internship positions in the summer of 2010.</li>
<li> SCI Scholars receive $6,000-$9,000 for a ten-week internship.</li>
<li> Students will be awarded a certificate and an additional $1000, which can be used for any purpose, such as participation at an ACS or AIChE meeting.</li>
<li> Scholars nominate a high school chemistry teacher for recognition. Teachers will be awarded a certificate from SCI and $1,000, which can be used for professional development or classroom materials.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Applications are due January 15, 2010. </strong></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Center for Undergraduate Research &amp; Creative Activities at the University at Buffalo enjoys affiliations with several national organizations whose mission is to further engage undergraduates in research. 		<description><![CDATA[The Department of Sociology, in conjunction with Alpha Kappa Delta, the International Sociology Honor Society, is sponsoring a Sociology Research Poster Competition.  The purpose of this competition is to both encourage and recognize Sociological research performed by undergraduates here at UB.  Research posters submitted to this competition may be on any substantive Sociology topic, may [...]]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Department of Sociology, in conjunction with Alpha Kappa Delta, the International Sociology Honor Society, is sponsoring a Sociology Research Poster Competition.  The purpose of this competition is to both encourage and recognize Sociological research performed by undergraduates here at UB.  Research posters submitted to this competition may be on any substantive Sociology topic, may utilize any sociological research methodology, and may use any sociological theories and concepts.  The posters should demonstrate innovative and original thinking.</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>First Prize:</strong> $100</li>
<li><strong>Second Prize:</strong> $75</li>
<li><strong>Third Prize:</strong> $50</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Eligibility</strong><br />
This competition is open to all undergraduates currently enrolled at UB.  Projects/research used for course credit may be submitted for the competition.  Posters may be submitted as either sole authored or with multiple authors (prizes will be awarded per poster).</p>
<p><strong>Submission Guidelines</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Posters should be submitted to Dr. Sampson Lee Blair, Director of Undergraduate Studies, Department of Sociology, 430 Park Hall.  Deadline for submission is March 20, 2009.  Projects may be displayed using up to a 36” by 48” space.</li>
<li>Posters should include a title, brief abstract (approximately 50 words), graphs/tables/charts/photos, a description of theories and research methods used, and findings and conclusions. All text should be legible at a distance of 3 to 4 feet.  A cover letter which details the purpose and significance of the work should accompany the poster. Any questions concerning poster format may be directed to Dr. Blair at <a href="mailto:slblair@buffalo.edu">slblair@buffalo.edu</a>.</li>
</ul>
<p>Competition winners will be announced on March 27, 2009.</p>
